Thanks to your outstanding support, we are blessed to be concluding the Fruit That Will Last Capital Campaign! We are in discussions with the architects in planning and designing the St. John Paul II Addition to the existing Student Center. The new two-story expansion will provide much-needed meeting, storage, and office space, new classrooms, an event center, a redesigned library/study space and a coffee area. This addition will allow St. Mary's to engage a greater number of students in campus ministry programs. Our new plans dramatically reduce the building costs associated with the previously designed St. John Paul II Vocation and Family Life Center and allow us to begin construction in fall 2017.
We are excited to enter the next phase of the expansion of our ministry: the campaign for our new church! On Sundays, our current 58-year-old church is routinely standing-room only, and we frequently must add extra Masses in the adjacent Activity Center to accommodate the 1,500 congregants who do not fit into the church. And as much as we trust the 12th Man to stand, we want to build a church with enough room for everyone to have a seat.
We have decided that three values will guide us as we begin its design: Beauty, Encounter, and Tradition. We want to build a church that is artistically beautiful, provides an intimacy of encounter with God and one another, and is rooted in our Catholic heritage.
